A native Texan with a Master’s Degree in Playwriting from The New School for Drama, Caren earned a Bachelor of Science in Radio/TV/FILM from Northwestern University and is a graduate of The Second City Conservatory in Chicago. 

Caren’s one-act comedy Appetite, a satire about dogs with eating disorders, won Best of Festival and Audience Pick in the New York City ID America Festival adjudicated by Jules Feiffer, Jen Bender, and John G. Schwartz. Her dark comedy about nail polish, Jesus’ Blood, won Honorable Mention at FirstStage Hollywood One-Act Contest in Los Angeles. Other plays have premiered in festivals such as Bailiwick Repertory Theater Winterfest in Chicago, and most recently two of Caren's ten-minute plays have become finalists in Short + Sweet Sydney.

An actor and improviser, Caren has performed on many Chicago and New York stages. Favorites include Live Bait Theatre (Chicago)  and NY International Fringe Festival. Caren has also written for and starred in the CAN-TV sketch show, “We’re Geniuses in France”.

A member of The Dramatist Guild of America, Caren lives in New York City where she has taught playwriting and acting residencies for Urban Stages, Arts To Grow and many other theater arts organizations.
